What Causes Pain In The Middle Of Back After An Injury?

I slipped on icy steps and hit the middle of my back on the edge of the step almost two weeks ago. The pain is worse when I am sitting or leaning forward. The area around where it hit is numb to the touch. I went to the er and they said they didn t see anything on the xray and sent me home with pain medication but something feels very wrong. Any advice?

Hi,

You may have sustained a soft tissue injury or a vertebral compression fracture as a result of the fall. Soft tissue injuries can take time to heal and may cause pain, swelling, and tenderness. Vertebral compression fractures can also cause significant pain and may result in numbness, tingling, or weakness in the affected area.

If the pain is persistent and severe, you may want to consider seeking further medical attention. This may involve consulting with your primary care physician or a specialist such as a spine specialist or a physical therapist. They may recommend additional diagnostic tests such as an MRI or CT scan to better assess the extent of your injury.

In the meantime, you can try using ice packs or heat therapy to help alleviate the pain and reduce any swelling. Over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen or acetaminophen may also provide some relief. However, be sure to follow the recommended dosages and consult with a healthcare professional if you have any concerns about using these medications.

It is important to rest and avoid any activities that may exacerbate your pain or cause further injury. Gentle stretching and exercises may also help to improve your range of motion and reduce stiffness over time. However, be sure to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any exercise program.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hi,

The injury on back you have might have caused trauma to vertebra in the back. A CT scan / MRI would reveal the exact site and cause of the problem and then specific treatment can be carried out. Please consult an orthopedic doctor.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
