Hello! My name is Aneta Sawicka. about 16 years ago i had broken C7. Last few years sometimes to sometimes i have huge pain in my neck and headaches. sometimes for one or few days or sometimes for few weeks. Im not able to do anything then. I see when the weather is changing it gets worse. Doctors here in Ireland try find why I have those headaches but they dont put much connection between my broken C7. I can feel all the time how is cracking and i have sudden sharp pain too. I wish to know how to work with this and avoid my that bad headaches. I had puncture of the spine when ambulance was taking me from the street with huge pain. In two weeks i will have MRI scan finally. During my bad headaches for few weeks nothing helps mostly and only i can take strong painkillers to make me sleep. sometimes i had paralyzed left hand. Any idea what i can do to help myself, please

Hello,

Now to manage these symptoms, you should consider two things

- Separate treatment is required for head pains and neck pain.
- Which symptom is more troublesome? That needs to be given priority.

Head pains management.

- Apply ice packs
- You can take multivitamin tablets which contain B12, folic acid, pantothenic acid, pyridoxine, Benfotiamine.

These are nerve specific vitamin which can treat tingling due to neuropathy.

- If severe tingling, then take tablet pregabalin/Gabapentine after prescription. These medications act on nerve damage pain and paresthesias (tingling).
- Reduce any kind of mental stress or anxiety, if any. You can also take tab clonazepam after prescription.

Coming to neck pain management, you can--

- Apply painkiller gel-like diclofenac at pain site.
- If there was an acute injury, apply icepacks. If chronic pain, apply hot fomentation.
- If possible, ask someone to do gentle neck massage at the pain area
- Neck exercise after getting some relief.
- If still no relief, you can take a painkiller like Diclofenac after prescription.

It is safe to take painkiller even without knowing the cause. Pain needs relief at first.

If there is a recurrent pain, proper examination and investigations are needed to know the cause.

Please get yourself examined to rule out cervical spondylosis. MRI cervical spine is needed to confirm the cause.

You can send me your reports. I will guide you further.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
