What Causes Pain In The Neck And Difficulty In Swallowing?

I have a thickness in my neck - and occasionally have issues with swallowing. I get a neck pain in my back of my neck, mostly at night, sometimes. I have breathlessness sometimes. I have developed allergies late in life it seems. I have weakness in my left arm. I do not sleep well at night - I wake up every hour to hour & 1/2 and have to urinate.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have pain in the neck and difficulty in swallowing. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like muscle spasm , gastroesophageal reflux disease , foreign bodies , esophageal ring , tonsillitis or esophagitis. I would suggest you to take liquid diet , do warm saline gargles and apply warm compresses on neck . Consult ENT specialist for proper examination . Doctor will examine with laryngoscope along with throat swab test and viral culture test . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics like amoxicillin or penicillin along with anti inflammatory or recommend tonsillectomy in severe case or in breathing difficulties . Doctor may also refer you to gastroenterologist for food pipe problem . Also apply warm compresses on neck.
