What Causes Pain In The Neck And Shoulder?

Thank you. About six years ago, I had a torn rotator cuff surgery, right side, that could not be repaired. Through four years of PT, I have amazing use of my arm, etc. Occasionally, the #1 rib pokes up causing neck pain until it can be manipulated back into place. Now...I have pain on the opposite side of my neck/shoulder that is painful and I am limited as to how far I can turn my head to the right. This has been increasing for about a month. PT has worked on it twice over a two week period, but I have seen no improvement. Any ideas? I am in pain!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and greetings

As per your description, most likely it's related to previous untreated torn roatator cuff syndrome which are known to cause shoulder and neck pain. Since, now the pain is felt on other side, it could be due to the overuse of torn rotator cuff muscles or the opposite side shoulder use (to avoid use of injured muscle). It could be due to fatigue of neck and shoulder muscles too which can cause discomfort and pain.

My advise is that you get in touch with orthopedic surgeon and get necessary investigations done like CT scan and get it treated.

Hope for the best
Thanks
