What Causes Pain In The Rib Cage On The Left Side?

For two weeks now I have been having severe pain on my left side at the bottom of my rib cage area. It will hurt to do anything and not made better by heat. I have taken 800 mg ibuprofen and it will alleviate it some. It does not hurt all the time either.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

If tenderness is elicited when you press the rib cage then there maybe inflammation or minor injury to the ribs or attached muscles.

If the pain is below the ribs then it may be related to underlying organs or muscles .
The organs in this area are the liver, gallbladder.

Since there is no response to medication and heat application then it may be best to see your doctor for an assessment.

I hope this helps
