What Causes Pain In The Right Hand?

I have recently had cramp type pain in my right hand. the pain starts just before the wrist and shoots down the side of my hand towards my little finger. it sometimes acts like a cramp and i can move my hand to relieve the pain. a couple of times lately it has continued. the pain is quite sharp.
