What Causes Pain In The Sacroiliac Joint And Numbness In The Legs?

Yes, I started with pain in my SI joint and it immediately turned to sciatica. I also have severe numbness in my lower leg from the knee down and into my toes. The pain can be extremely intense to where I cry. And there may be moments that I m comfortable. I was given a zpak of Prednisone for 6days with no relief. I ve been alternating heat and ice. I am scheduled for an MRI. Is there a chance this could also be a knee problem? I had a knee surgery in February last year and an identical surgery in August. All on the left same as my sciatica.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
hi,
Thanks for the query. I understand your concern,
The symptoms following severe SI joint area .. in form of numbness in leg to toe.. seems to be neurogenic in origin. The nerve compression at lumbosacral spine pinching the nerve supplying the affected part presents with the symptoms. It does not seem to be knee problem.
Apart from Rest & alternating heat & ice packs you can take anti inflammatory pills like Dicloran & vitamin B 12 for some relief.
It's good that you are already planning MRI - It would pin point the cause & help in specific management ( NSAID pills/local steroid injection/ physiotherapy or surgery. )
Thanks.
