What Causes Pain In The Scalp When Suffering From Chicken Pox?

Hello doctor, I am 20 years old and on my 5th day of chicken poks. My whole head is basically covered in poks and it has now spread to just below the belt. The biggest problem I am having is the sharp pulses of pain that occur from the ones on my head, particularly the ones on my skalp between my hair. It hurts to such an extent that I am unable to sleep and even just touching my hair is painfull. Is this normal? And is there anyway to help with the pain? Currently I am using calamine lotion for the itching on my face but it doesn t really feel like it s working and the poks remain itchy even after applying it, is there anything else that might be effective for the itching? Some of the poks on my head have started scabbing I believe, will this prossess work the same way it spread? By slowly going down my body untill they are all fully healed? I have also noticed that some of the the poks are filled with a water like substance, and others aren t is this something to be concerned about? Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I understand your concern.

The symptoms seem to be related to chickenpox.

The lesions are also in the scalp and cause scalp pain.

I suggest using Tylenol for the pain.

I also recommend using Cetirizine 10 mg daily to relieve the itching.

The symptoms will go away on its own in a few days.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
