Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, I think i may have broken my tailbone per the symptoms listed on your website. Does it really matter if i get an X-ray or not? I hit it on a boulder in the river yesterday.. It doesn t hurt when I m standing, only when sitting or trying to get up from sitting..
Noted your history of hit on the tailbone yesterday on a boulder in the river and now getting pain in the same area when standing and getting up from sitting position. Since the history is so much suggestive the most probable cause is inflammation on the bone and tissues around it. There is a chance of fracture of the tailbone that is coccyx. Hence this is important to have X-ray to rule out any fracture. Take an anti-inflammatory like Ibuprofen if it suits you. Sitz bath in a tub with warm water. Laxatives to have soft stools to avoid straining and hence increase in pain while passing motion. Take rest. Get an examination done by your Doctor to confirm the diagnosis and go for any additional treatment as needed.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
