What Causes Pain In The Thighs And Difficulty In Walking?

I have been experiencing aches in my thighs that make it difficult to walk up a flight of stairs without helping pull myself up with the stair rail. I first noticed it in one thigh after doing yard work, but it soon affected the other leg as well. This has continued for a few weeks.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for asking. I understand your concern.
If you are sure it's not joint pain...it can be due to muscle pain( overstrain, calcium defeciency), bony weakness(calcium or vitamin D defeciency) or due to nerve pressure, pinching at lumber spine.
Hot packs/muscle relaxent ointments over the counter will give you some relief at home.
You need to consult a physician to start with .. who would examine you carefully&advise yiu fir investigations like serum calcium, vitamine D levels . Imaging investigation would define any vertebral or disc problem. He would start with medication (painmedicine, calcium &vitamine D supplements.)or refer you to an orthopedic pdoctor for specific management.
Thanks.
