Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I took Lipitor for a month and started having major muscle issues, felt like pulled muscles, swollen finger, then I woke up with severe thigh pain, went to emergency because I have some back disc issues and have been given two epidurals for that. Now I am having more discomfort in my leg muscles and it s affecting my walking. What could be going on?
Lipitor is a drug in the group of statins which are very good drugs to lower cholesterol.
On the other hand, the most important side effect of this drugs is myositis which is inflammation of muscles with pain and muscle damage.
Because you have these thigh pains to make sure if they are from the Lipitor use or not you will need to see your doctor and possibly have a blood test done called CK which increases if the statins (Lipitor) is hurting the muscles.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
