What Causes Pain In The Throat And Upper Chest While Breathing Deep?

When I take a deep breath, my throat really hurts and my upper chest hurts a little bit too. Yesterday I woke up with a headache and I took two three tylenols and I wasnt feeling this weird thing in my throat. It seems to be fine when I don t think of it but worse when I bend down for something or concentrate on taking a deep breath. I don t feel the sensation sometimes, so I take a deep breath purposely just to see if it went away and I realize it s still there.

Hello,
Thank you for asking at HCM.

If the pain is worse when you bend down there are two major possible causes of it.
One would a muscular pain. Tylenol in this case helps. The other cause is acid reflux from the stomach. What I would recommend is:

1. Take tylenol 500 mg every 6 hours. This would help with muscular pain.
2. you can take some antiacids or Omeprazole to help with it. If you use it for 3-4 days and you see no improvement than it is not due to the acid refux.
3. It would be good to have healthy eating habits also, like having regular meals, it might be better to have 5 small meals than 2-3 big meals. Avoid fatty food, fried or junk food. Take fruit and vegetable. Avoid sparkling drinks and alcohol drinks. Avoid smoking. These are all helpful if acid reflux is an issue and healthy habits in general.
4. If you do not see an improvement of the symptoms with these or you think you are getting any worse than you will need to speak with your doctor.

I hope this is helpful and answers to your question.

Best regards,
