Hi, my opinion is your husband may have an oesophageal spasm. But, I need to know the other symptoms that your husband might had, such as fever, neck
stiffness, or vomiting.
The difficulty of swallowing can be caused by oesophageal spasm and inflammation in the throat. The other possibilities are gastro-oesophageal reflux, oesophageal stricture, etc.
Oesophageal spasm generally accompanied by the following symptoms:
1.
Chest pain, that may be gripping, boring, pressing, or stabbing and also can radiate to the neck, or upper arms.
2. Dysphagia or hard to swallowing
3. Reflux-related symptoms- eg, regurgitation,
heartburn, or
hoarseness.
If I were your husband, I will check my condition to gastroenterologist for various examinations such as physical examination, upper gastrointestinal endoscopy,
electrocardiography,
blood test, x-rays and other tests if necessary.
The doctor may will manage your husband by the caused that found in that examination. The doctor might prescribed nitrates,
nifedipine, or trazodone. Maybe there will be suggestion to surgical management. Your husband can discuss with his treating doctor.
