What Causes Pain In The Torus Palatinus While Suffering From Sinusitis?
I have had a torus palatinus for as long as I can remember I actually thought it was normal until I noticed others didn t have it. I have recently noticed that I seem to have pain there any time I am having sinus issues. Are those 2 things related? Is this the cause of my sinus issues?
Torus Palatinus is a harmless overgrowth of the palatine bone and it is painless and can be painful only if the overlying mucosa gets traumatised.. Sinus infection or sinusitis can cause pain and pressure over the palate due to close proximity of the large maxillary sinuses to it.. This can cause pain over the torus also.. In case if you have post nasal drip along with sinus infection then it can cause inflammation of throat and palatal mucosa that can also cause pain.. So my suggestion is to take a script of antibiotics, anti inflammatory painkillers and do steam inhalation and warm saline gargles for relief.. If specifically the torus hurts apply Lidocaine gel over it and avoid hard and spicy foods..
Hope this helps..
Regards..
