What Causes Pain In The Upper Abdomen On The Left Side?

Good Afternoon, I am worried about the pain in my upper left abdomen. It came on the morning after drinking. I vomited yellow acid that burned my throat. My stool also is foul smelling and floats. I am not sure what to do. I have taken 4mg of Zofran, but it did not help the nausea. The pain has continued into today in the same area along with the stool. it is made worse when I eat.

Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would explain that your symptoms could be related to gastritis or acute pancreatitis. A gastro-intestinal infection can not be excluded either.

I would recommend going to the ER for a careful physical exam and some tests:

- a chest X ray study
- an abdominal ultrasound
- kidney and liver function tests
- complete blood count
- amylase and lipase plasma levels
- a stool bacterial analysis.

Hope to have been helpful!

Kind regards,

Dr. Iliri
