What Causes Pain In The Upper Abdomen On The Left Side?

I have had pain in my upper left abdomen for two years now. Often there is no pain or very mild pain/discomfort. Just last week I had blood work that came back normal and ultrasound that came back normal. My nurse prescribed vitamin D to fix my apparently mild deficiency. Since I started taking it my pain is much more severe and frequent, and I have significant discomfort. I don t have an appointment to see my nurse for another two weeks. Other symptoms I have lately are times of fatigue and I often feeling sleepy. My throat hurts almost daily, but cultures came back negative.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, the left-sided abdominal pain can be due to stomach, and inflammation of stomach lining called gastritis can present like this. Using antacids like Omperazole before meals and avoiding fizzy drinks and spicy or junk foods should be ensured. Antispasmodic like Itapride can be helpful.

You should better visit your primary care physician and for throat antibiotics may be needed if any signs of inflammation on examination appear. Antihistamines like Cetirizine or saline water gargles can be helpful for throat symptoms.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
