What Causes Pain In The Upper Abdomen?

I am having upper abdominal pain that has been ongoing for a couple of days. At first it started in my upper abdomen, between ribs and radiates to my back. Sometimes the pain felt like labour contractions. Mostly dull, burning like ache. Very tender. Nausea off and on. Start hurting approx 20 mins after eating. When pain is severe, cannot sleep. Should I seek medical attention?

Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

Your symptoms seem to be related to gastro-esophageal reflux or an ulcer.

I recommend consulting with your attending physician for a physical exam and some tests:

-a chest X ray study
- a resting ECG
- a fibrogastroscopy
- some blood lab tests (complete blood count, kidney and liver function tests, PCR, ESR).

Meanwhile, I recommend taking omeprazole or pantoprazole to relive the pain.

Hope to have been helpful!

Kind regards,

Dr. Iliri
