Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a pain in my upper back/shoulder. It sometime moves to my left arm, moving as far down as my elbow. The pain is fairly persistent and severe. Today has been the worst, lasting all day from 7 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. It started in my upper back 3 days ago. Is this a warning sign of a heart attack? Should I go to the emergency department?
Hello there. I have read through your question and according to me the type of pain you are describing does sound similar to a Myocardial infarction pain. Though it can be a muscular pain too, it is advisable to get an EKG done to rule out any cardiac causes. Meanwhile I would suggest you to take Tab Aspirin 75 mg along with a proton pump inhibitor like pantoprazole. If MI is ruled out you can get relief by taking a muscle relaxant after consulting with your physician. I hope that answers your question. If you have any other questions please feel free to write.
