What Causes Pain In The Upper Gum?

I have recently had pain in my upper right gum area. I was on 10 days of antibiotics and while it improved the pain, a lump formed in this area that was never there previously. I am being referred because they think one of my teeth may have a crack and I will be going through a root canal. Does this sound normal to have this lump form?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain if you have a cracked tooth that you are being advised to go for RCT, the lump seems to be due to tooth abscess formation that occurs when the infection reaches below the root tips of the tooth and there is formation of pus below root tips of the tooth..

When the pus perforates the bone it gets accumulated under the gums and forms a lump..

I would suggest you to get an x ray of the tooth done..

As you are already being advised for root canal treatment get the treatment initiated and along with it you will be advised antibiotics and painkillers..
Gradually the infection will reduce and the lump will subside..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
