What Causes Pain In The Upper Right Quadrant And Excessive Weight Loss?

My father have had pain in upper right quadrant and he felt full all the time and also lost 12 kg weight over the last 5 years. Considering only the symptomps our family doctor said that it is tb in small intestine and started giving him anti tuberculoises medicine akt4 .He s been taking that medicine from one month but as the medicine is very strong so almost every time he is out of energy , feels shortness of breath and ask for glucose daily. Then last week he went for ct scan and in the report it showed cyst of 7mm on his liver. Colonoscopy was also done and the large intestine is doing fine but endoscopy was not done. Me and my mother are very scared that what if he does not have tb !!! Will akt4 have adverse affect on him then ?? And what about those cysts ?? Are they dangerous ? Please tell us that what should we do ?? We see no way out.

Hi,

I had gone through your question I can understand your concern about your father. In case he doesn't have any tuberculosis he will be having the same side effects as he feels it now.

First, after all, doctors do not start anti-tuberculosis therapy without having proper clinical and pathological finds, so there are signs and symptoms of TB that is why the medication is there.

Second weight loss is one of the major clinical findings with other signs and symptoms associated.

7 mm of cyst is not much concern and most of the times these cystic lesions limit on there own or by medication only. Don't bother about it.

You must not discontinue the therapy without the consultation of a doctor.

You need to provide him with a properly balanced diet and proper timing of medication and also take every decision after consultation with your family physician.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
