Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pain In The Upper Thigh While On Atorvastatin?
I am taking Atorvastatin and I have hypothyroidism. I just read online that if it is poorly controlled this combination can cause kidney damage. I also have right upper thigh pain. What alternative station should I be taking or do I need to worry about this. My L-thyroxine has Judy been changed from 175 to 150 mcg. I have only been taking atorvastatin for one month.
Atorvastatin can cause muscular pains due to damage the drugs in its group can cause to the muscles but not all pains are due to its use. To confirm that the pain is due to muscle damage from Atorvastatin use you will need to see your doctor and have a CK (Creatinkinase) test done. If there is damage of the muscles due to Atorvastatin CK will increase a lot. If CK is normal then very likely the pain is not related to it.
As for the concern of using Atorvastatin and Levothyroxin together, there is no contraindication using them together and it is quite safe to take them both at the same time so do not worry about interactions or increased toxicity while taking them together.
Hope I have answered your query.
