What Causes Pain In The Wrist And Numbness In The Thumb?

i sprained my wrist and hand a week ago from overuse. I had a x-ray. No broken bones, but a sprain. I am wearing a brace except at night, which was suggested by my doctor. The last several days my thumb has become numb. Is this caused by the brace, the sprain, and will it go away? It hurts when i touch it to anything and my skin on my outer thumb has no feeling. Is this common and what is going on?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Possible nerve compression over the lateral aspect of wrist as radial most likely.

I suggest to get an MRI without delay for the final diagnosis and further care to cure it.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
