What Causes Pain In Throat And Chest Followed By Breathlessness During Food Intake?
I was eating a warm to hot supper then suddenly I had a sharp pain in throat chest area...I felt as if I couldn t swallow the food down or catch my breath...not sure if I panicked and exaggerated the felling of breathlessness...I made myself vomit and after as bout 5 minutes my throat and pain subsided...is th his a common problem
Hi, You asked a very interesting question. What you have described is a common problem and everybody have suffered once in their lifetime.
This is due to swallowing a large mouthful of food while talking or laughing. It gets stuck in throat. Many a times it stuck in throat and it will cause breathing difficulty and throat pain which is easily relieved by vomiting.
But sometimes, it may enter breathing passages like trachea or lungs. Then it becomes a serious issue. We have to thump our chest hard to spit the food out or sometimes need a doctor to pull that food out. heimlich's manouver is one procedure where a person stands behind the patient and hugs him by the stomach and gives a hard tightening, then the food may come out.
Thank you and best wishes for having a good health
