What Causes Pain In Toe After An Injury?

Hi, I dropped a heavy church candle on the tip of my very long second toe, the one next to my big toe about six months ago. It hurt alot at the time and the next day the whole toe went black and the tip was swollen for weeks. I didn't think the doctor could do anything so just carried on walking with it. But it has not stopped hurting. It still throbs all the time and because it is longer than my big toe takes my weight and when going up or down stairs it feels like broken glass each time my weight is on it. Could something be done to put it right after so long? Really appreciate any advice, regards Kerrie
