What Causes Pain In Upper Left Side Of Chest?

I have pain in my upper left side of my chest...sometimes I have sharp pains, and/or a constant ache. It does come and go but really lets me know when it is here. Have had times when it feels like my pulse is racing 90 mph and all I did was get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and go back to bed. have thought it to be my heart or then a muscle strain but can t pinpoint what starts it.

Hello,
Welcome to HCM.
I have read you history carefully.
You have not mentioned age and sex along with whether you are hypertensive or not and taking any medicines or not.
As you have mentioned, your pain may be due to problem related heart, muscle or lungs.
Sharp pain may be due to pleuritis (inflammation of coverings of lung) while deep sited dull or constricting pain may be related to heart. Muscle pain can be more localized and aggravated by movement.
Your description of pain is rather ill defined and it difficult to arrive to any conclusion. But as you have racing heart, it is highly advisable to rule out something related to heart or lung by undergoing an EKG, some blood test X-ray and ECHO of heart if needed.
Hope this will be helpful.
Please let me know if any further question is there.
Thanks for using HCM. Take care.
I find this answer helpful
