What Causes Pain On Edge Of Shoulder Blade?

Hi, my friend has pain just on the edge of her shoulder blade. Muscles are not aching and when I massage the muscles in the region, I can feel in two places a single vein going back and forth. Is this usually what happend with a strain and how can this be helped?
