What Causes Pain On Left Side Of The Rib Cage?

hi im a 36 yr old female..i woke up 11 days ago with pain on my left side where my rib cage is, i could walk but it was so bad i could barely do anything, it hurt to bend, get out of bed or do much of anything..i was like this for 6 days when i went to the ER, they didnt see anything on the xray so they said its probably a muscle strain but they werent rly sure..they also did blood work & an EKG..well its been 11 days & im still in pain & cant really do anything. i should also mention i do alot of physical labor for my job but havent been able to work since this happened. they said a pulled muscle will take 10-14 days to get better..im just nervous that its not just a pulled muscle because i laid in bed for 5 whole days & did nothing & only got maybe 30% better. should i just keep waiting for it to get better or could it be something else? they said a break is easy to miss on an xray..if it is broken will it just take time to heal?

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Muscular pain is usually relieved with the help of muscle relaxants. However, if the pain is severe then it may be due to inflammation of pleura. I suggest you to consult a pulmonologist for clinical assessment, relevant investigations and thus management.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shailja Puri, Pathologist and Microbiologist
