What Causes Pain On The Base Of The Skull And Stiff Neck?

I have beck pain at the base of my skull on left side. My neck is stiff and does not have full range of motion. It came on suddenly 6 days ago and is worsening. If I walk to quickly or twist neck I become very nauseous I ve tried ice and heat. Ibuprofen doesn t lesson the symptoms. I have been running a low grade temp. 99.5 and am very tired with nights sweats, but am 46 and female. I ve had a history of migraines currently under control and this feels different. Not sure if just tension HEadache or more. Thoughts?

neck stiffness with mild fever is mostly indicative of meningism. Do you feel photophobia? nauseous? vomiting?
you should visit a doctor. Be examined.
