What Causes Pain On The Left Side Of The Anus?

I have been experiencing pain on the left side of my anus area. It feels like chaffing almost but this is reoccurring only on that side. There is some redness and the creases seem to be more defined. I notice the discomfort mostly after using toilet paper. The pain is not intense but still noticable. I am worried, can you please help me?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
There are a number of causes for anal pain, notable of which are Hemorrhoids, anal tear or fissure(usually from passage of hard stools), and anusitis ( an inflammation of the lining of the anus). Please see your primary care physician for accurate diagnosis. However, while you schedule an appointment, you can purchase over-the-counter pain relief medications.
