What Causes Pain On The Right Side Of The Abdomen?

Hi. I have had pain in my right side kidney and abdominal area. Doctors could not locate my appendix. First they thought it was UTI and the infection spread to my kidneys. Then they also thought it could be appendicitis. However they could not locate my appendix through the ultra sound. I am abit concerned because they could not find my appendix. Is this normal. Could it be hiding behind another organ of mine or may be I could have been born without one? Please advise. Thanks. Ray

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The two possibilities are appendicitis and renal stone.
As first-line management, you can take analgesics like paracetamol or aceclofenac for pain relief.
You can go for a CT scan to get a better clinical picture.
Ultrasound is a preliminary investigation and may not be useful always.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
