What Causes Pain On The Right Side Of The Jaw?

Just before going to bed at midnight Pacific Time, I began to have pain on the right side of my jaw. It could have been triggered by some very cold, icy gelato that I ate a half hour before. I took 240 mg. of enteric-coated aspirin. Almost three hrs. later, the pain has been bad enough that have been unable to sleep--although it seems to have decreased some as I write this. I saw my dentist just just three wks ago, had all teeth x-rayed a month before, and have no major problems. I was considering taking some Hydrocodone/APAP 7.5 MG/750MG left over from a root canal on the other side five years ago but I drank several glasses of wine between 7:30 and 11:00 pm. I MIGHT be tired enough to sleep now without anything further. Or, I could take more aspirin. I have no cardiac problems that I know of and no other symptoms. What do you think? General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Thanks for this query.
The pain you describe could be due to over working of jaw muscles from chewing.A tooth problem may also give you those symptoms even though some months back tooth x ray was ok.
Taking left over hydrocodone(5 years too long) may not be a good option as safety can not be assured. However, hydrodone being an opioid will take care of such pains.
I will suggest you take aspirin again.See your Dentist again for evaluation if the pain persist.
Hope my answer will help you
Best regards
