What Causes Pain On Thighs Upon Touching It?

Hello my name is Vera. I have this unusual pain in my left thigh. If I rub my hand across my thigh it is painful to the touch. Almost like I have a severe bruised muscle but my skin is sensitive to the touch. I haven t done anything to exert myself for there to be a bruised muscle. Should I worry? What could this be?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The pain can be related to the nerve that supply the area or may be due to inflammation of the muscles in the area. If there is no history of abnormal movements or activity, then nerve related issues are more likely. You can visit your doctor to confirm. There are medications that can help nerve related pain (called neuropathy). In some cases, the cause is not found. Some possible causes are: diabetes, trauma, liver or kidney disease, side effect of medication, low vitamin B12 or folate, abnormal B6 levels, thyroid disease.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
