What Causes Pain, Swelling And Itching At The Site Of An Insect Bite?

My boyfriend was driving then he felt like something was bitten him .I looked under his shirt and there was nothing near his buttocks. He kept driving then said ouch bae look something bitten me and its itching bad. When we got home I looked again it was a little bump. He then went back outside later that night he took a shower and I checked it again the bum is huge. Put alcohol and itch cream on it. A day pass and its really red has gotten bigger and the area is so hard. He now saying it hurts but itching bad. What could it be bc now its really hot in that area like fever in it.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It is nothing but a inflammatory reaction. As a first line management, you can apply low potency steroid creams like Betamethasone for symptomatic relief. If the lesion persists, it is better to consult a dermatologist and get evaluated. In severe cases, oral steroids like Prednisone and antihistamines may be required.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Wishing you all the best.

Regards,
