What Causes Pain, Swelling And Redness On The Fingers?

For past month I have had swollen, red and painful fingers. I haven t quite been able to make tight fists. I suspected a rheumatoid flare up as I have a history of rheumatoid arthritis in my knees. This summer I also had a few cases of tendinitis and trigger finger where it was also hard to make a fist (precursors to rheumatoid?). Another strange this is a couple time I have a cut on one of my fingers and the swelling and pain is noticeably worse in that finger.
