What Causes Pain Throughout Body While Experiencing Fatigue, Depression Or Emotional Stress?

I have been battling pain for about 10 years now. It usually starts in one area of my body and gets so severe that my whole body hurts. Any kind of physical or emotional stress, fatigue, depression causes me to hurt all over. I also have anxiety when I have severe pain. I am generally stiff and achy when I wake up in the morning like soreness after a strenuous workout. I have also noticed that when this happens my brain is foggy, I have difficulty focusing and have poor cognition and memory. I am being treated for depression and anxiety with Wellbutrin (150mg) and Cymbalta (20 mg). Can you please make a diagnosis? I try to exercise atleast 4-5 times/wk which is usually just walking. My job is a little physically demanding as well.

Hello,

You are battling pain since 10 years. Any type of physical, emotional stress, fatigue causes you to hurt all over the body. You are on your prescription medicines Wellbutrin and Cymbalta. The commonest cause of pain throughout the body is lack of sleep, insomnia, vitamin D deficiency, chronic fatigue syndrome, lupus, poor circulation, thyroid problems, etc.

It is often triggered by anxiety, depression and stress. You are suggested to take break between work and let your self relax. If exhausted, take rest. Stay well hydrated and active. Take food rich in vitamin D and calcium. Take supplements and take appropriate amount of sunlight. Your symptoms can be a side effect of the medicines you have been taking for a long period.

Consult your treating doctor so that the doses of the medicines can be monitored or if needed can be replaced by some other medicines that suit you better. Switch to healthy lifestyle, take home made nutritious food, do regular stretch exercises and walking. Keep yourself busy, make new friends, read books and avoid stress and anxiety.

You are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP. Get a general health check up done, get required blood workouts, urinalysis, imaging tests done to detect the pathology causing you symptoms. You will be accordingly treated.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
