I started having a stabbing pain under my right breast yesterday afternoon. I had done nothing to pull a muscle or strain that area. I was sitting down when it started. I went to the emergency room cause it hurt so bad to breathe in. They did a chest X-ray and determined it was pleurisy. Well tonight, I have a lump about an inch underneath my right breast. It s not mushy, but it s not hard and its scaring. I m light headed, and I contionue to breathe fast. However I don t have a cough.
I would prefer to physically examine you and conduct a few investigations to establish the cause for the pleurisy. Pleurisy can present with the lump and scarring or rash in the region of the primary inflammation.
But it is important to establish the cause and initiate treatment (e.g. if it is caused by a bacterial infection then antibiotic coverage will be required). For the time being, apply an ice pack to the region to help with inflammation and take an OTC (over-the-counter) anti-inflammatory if you can get your hands on it. If it does not help with improving the breathing, then you may have to re-visit the ER.
Best wishes ma'am.
