What Causes Pain Under Rib, Back And Abdomen?

Hi, I was taken to hospital recently with pain under right rib, all down the middle of my back and across my lower back and lower abdomen. They thought it was gallstones but have had scan and didn't see and, the pain is most of the time just a niggle but then flares up and is very painful forma while. It is tender under my rib most of the time but then pains come all over my front and back. Seen my doctor and he said it might j ust go away
