What Causes Pain Under The Right Rib Cage During 39th Week Of Pregnancy?

This questions is about my 21 year old daughter who is 39 weeks pregnant. She has been having pain under her right rib cage for the last two months that has been progressively getting worse. She describes it as intermittent, worse when she lays down or sits, relieved by standing up. She describes it as a pain that increases in intensity, radiates around her right side to her back, a pressure like pain. she states when the pain is really bad it is like a pulling drawing like something could just burst, like muscles ripping, accompanied by like a numb tingling feeling. Is this something for us to be concerned about? She called us tonight in tears and pain. We told her to go to the hospital. What is going on with her?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I suppose this pain may be as a result of gallbladder stones. She should check a total blood count and liver chemistry.

Also, another possibility is of having kidney stones and a urine analysis together with ultrasound is needed.

Hope I have answered the question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
