What Causes Pain While Breathing When Suffering From Pneumonia?

I have a friend he s been sick over 3 weeks his dr said pneumonia but he s not getting any better he s taking mucinex cough syrup penicillin and codeine he s coughing up brown sputum soreness in lungs he s weak no energy hurts to breathe he feels a little better 1 day then worse again the next

What's CBC...chest xray done? If high grade fever vomiting and not responding to these medicines, get him admitted for injectable treatment.
