What Causes Pain While Swallowing Food After Tooth Extraction?

My left upper wisdom tooth was removed about three weeks ago, it was very decayed. But, I m now having a pain as I swallow even my own saliva, it s very uncomfortable and difficult to eat food. It was a very huge tooth, the extraction was very dramatic as week. Is this pain to be expected?

Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Pain what you are experiencing during swallowing following wisdom tooth extraction is due to soft tissue swelling in the pharynx area.
Kindly do the following to overcome it.
1. Do salt water gargling twice daily.
2. Take anti-inflammatory-analgesic medication containing Ibuprofen and Paracetamol twice daily after food.
3. Do mouth gargling with Chlorhexidine solution at bedtime.
Gradually, the swelling should reduce and you should be able to overcome the symptoms. Until then, please consume semi-solid soft foods.
Hope the information provided helps.
All the best.
