What Causes Painc Attacks After Quitting Smoking And Drinking?

Male 31, recently quit smoking and drinking and about 3 weeks ago i had a series of panic attacks. I ve never had panic attacks in my life, but these were bad enough that i thought i was going to have to go to the ER. DR. has prescribed lorazepam on an as needed basis. They have been working for the past week .25 mg 3x a day but i dont want to be reliant on pills. My question is, how can panic attacks happen all of a sudden and can i get passed this without drugs?
