Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi my 8 year old son has been complaining of a seriously bad pain in his penis. It hurts when he urinates, when he moves rigorously. He says it feels very sensitive when he touches it and it looks a bit swollen at the base. What could be the cause of this? I am very worried do I need to take him to see the GP will he need medical treatment?
Hello and welcome to HCM, Pain in the penis, painful urination, swollen base of penis and penis feeling sensitive - all could be due to various causes most important being urinary tract infection (UTI), genital tract infection e.g. infection of prostate, balanitis which is infection of the glans etc. I suggest you to get an urine routine examination done to look for evidence of infection. A swab from urethra also needs to be done to isolate the micro-organism causing the infection and hence symptoms. Before getting these investigations, you should consult an urologist for clinical assessment and hence management of the condition.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
