What Causes Painful And Swollen Veins?

While showering I dropped the chrome shower head on the side of my left foot and immediately the veins protruded and its very painful. I can no longer see the veins but my foot is swollen with a blue appearance. Should I apply a cold pack and elevate my foot? Should I be concerned about a blood clot forming and possibly traveling to my brain?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I understand your concern.

While showering, blood vessels of the skin dilate and become more fragile. The hit by the chrome shower head caused trauma to these fragile veins.

The final result is swollen leg.

Yes, you should apply ice and cold compressess locally. Should also keep your leg elevated to help the clogged blood get dissolved.

Do not worry about blood clot traveling to the brain this time.

Wish fast recovery.
