What Causes Painful Bruise Embedded With Hard Painful Red Lump On Knee?
Hi, I fell while ice skating 4 days ago and didn t even notice that my knee was injured until around an hour later when it began hurting. It began as a large red bump w/ a dark bruis around it on the bottom medial part of my knee, now 4 days later, the swelling has gone down, but is still there, the bruise is 20 different colors and almost circles around my knee cap, and the red bump is still there, it s numb to the touch but hurts a lot when pressure is applied to it. I ve had it elevated w/ ice on/off w/ ibuprofen since Sunday night. . . Suggestions other than see a dr ?
Hello and welcome to HCM, Red bump after a history of trauma is suggestive of hematoma formation. Hematoma is formed due to internal bleeding and blood collection. The hematoma change color after a few days of injury. A hematoma usually resolves after few days of formation. Pain can be controlled by pain killer and rest. A X-ray of the knee joint is required to look for any fluid collection in the joint space. Rest will help to resolve the pain. Consultation with a primary healthcare provider is required for clinical assessment, investigations and thus management.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
