What Causes Painful Bump Behind Ear During Pregnancy?
I m 33 weeks pregnant and I have a painful bump behind my ear it is not a zit, it s under my skin and I looked it up and it could be a swollen gland meaning infection? I m worried because it s really painful & I don t have any infection or symptoms of being sick. Could this mean I have a infection with my pregnancy? What does this mean?
The back of the ear has lymph nodes. These can often become infected or swollen when there is a throat infection. Throat infections are common whenever a season changes or if one eats a new type of food.
Since the drainage of the lymph from the throat is into the ear lymph nodes, they are likely to swell up.
The lymph nodes usually reduce or return to normal size after the infection subsides. This is spontaneous in viral infections. However, bacterial infections may need antibiotics.
In case a bacterial infection is suspected or if the symptoms are increasing seeing a doctor to confirm the cause would be important.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care

Dr. Vignan Rachabattuni
