What Causes Painful Bumps On Vaginal Lips?

I'm 54 year's old, 5'1, 210lbs. I have several bumps on the lips of my vagina. At times they are very painful. Sometimes it feels sore and itchy. I have been using zinc oxide diaper cream. That helps a bit. I have an appointment with my MD. This started about a month ago.
