Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a pea-sized cyst on my inner butt cheek that is quite painful. I had one in the same place about 6 months ago, but after a great deal of soaking in hot water it drained and disappeared after a few days. I d rather not have to go through that again however. Why did it reappear and what should I do?
Hello and welcome to HCM, A painful cyst on the buttock could be a boil, abscess cavity or an inflamed hair follicle. An aspiration cytology of the lesion would help to know the character of the lesion. A ultrasonography of the buttock will also be helpful to know the site and extent of the lesion. I suggest you to consult your primary healthcare provider for clinical assessment and investigations. Aspiration cytology is an office procedure wherein cells are aspirated from the lesion with the help of a needle. The cellular material is spread on a slide and stained with appropriate stain. The nature of the lesion can be determined by this investigation. Management can be planned after all investigations are done.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
