What Causes Painful Dark Bruise On The Knuckles Of The Right Hand?

The knuckles of my right hand regularly bruise without injury at all. Without any trauma or impact or reason, they are very painful, turn purple and I can barely touch them. Usually one finger at a time: it lasts a day or two then it happens to another finger and so on for weeks on end.
