Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Painful Ears, Throat And Neck Swelling Despite Taking Medication?
For about 2.5 weeks, my ears, throat, glands in my neck and down to the area around my clavicles hurts so bad when I swallow, cough, and/or blow my nose. I have had no fever and the first week, my neck was extremely swollen. I went to my ENT and was put on the prednisone taper, as well as dicyclomine for 10 days. Instead of it getting better, it seems to be getting worse. What does it sound like it may be?
Please get yourself evaluated for infectious mononucleosis, also called EBV infection. It is a viral infection and can be diagnosed by a test called mononucleosis spot test which a simple test to check the antibodies. The symptoms could be a simple pharyngitis however I would recommend you to get the above condition ruled out.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Anoop Kumar, General & Family Physician
