What Causes Painful Hard Lump On Buttocks Area?

My boyfriend has a hard lump on his buttcheek right above the split on his crack, he says it hurts to sit on but doesn't hurt when squeezing, also you can rub your finger on it and feel it immediately without pressing hard. He says he felt it a couple days ago. Any ideas?
